BA in Global Affairs
Are you interested in international issues? Globalization? Study abroad and international experiences? Learning languages? Join the more than 250 students in the Global Affairs Program.
The BA in Global Affairs is an interdisciplinary major that introduces you to the global trends affecting all societies and provides you the tools to understand these trends. As a Global Affairs major, you will examine transnational and international processes in a wide range of areas: politics, economics, culture, peace and conflict, the environment, and more. You will also study specific regions, languages, and investigate the ways particular parts of the world experience globalization. You can also choose the Global Affairs minor, which will add a global perspective to your current major.
Global Affairs majors start with a common set of core courses, which are GLOA 101or SOCI 120 , CONF 340, CULT 320, ECON 385, EVPP 337, and GOVT 322. There are no prerequisites for these courses, except that GOVT 322 requires GOVT 132 or 133. Global Affairs majors also choose one of fourteen concentrations. Majors may also choose more than one concentration.
Majors also take an extra year of a foreign language. Study abroad and globally-oriented internships are strongly encouraged, and the major advisor will help students work overseas experiences, study credits, and internship credits into the program of study. Students also can enhance their learning experiences by living in a Global Affairs community in on-campus housing.
Since the major includes many electives, students can complement their Global Affairs major with a second major or a minor in, for example, Government and International Politics, Foreign Languages, Business, or Art and Visual Technology. With a truly interdisciplinary understanding of global trends, advanced foreign language skills, and possible study abroad, Global Affairs majors will be strong candidates for international careers and advanced graduate study.
