Section Information for Spring 2017
This course introduces philosophy and “big name” philosophers in historical context, elaborating broad recurring thematic concerns in epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics over millennia of intellectual history. Philosophy is introduced as a rigorous methodology of inquiry with applications well beyond its own subject material. The course begins with the ancient Greeks, developing ideas as they evolve through medieval, early modern, and ultimately through 20th century movements such as the existentialists.
