Madhava DeBow

What work are you doing now?

As a Lead Finance and Research Analyst at the office of the Defense and Air Attaché at the Embassy of Brazil, I am responsible for developing and executing our office’s annual budget and for developing in-depth reports based on strategic and focused research. I work with and present this information to leaders of the executive branch of the Brazillian and U.S. governments.

What do you like about it?

I find my work engaging because I work on a variety of fields, which creates a dynamic environment where I get to expand my views and experiences. I am constantly educating myself and learning something new.

How did your degree in the college prepare you to do this work?

I graduated from George Mason with a bachelor’s degree in global affairs and a minor in business. Both disciplines shaped me into an educated and prepared professional. I am grateful to the many dedicated faculty members who had the patience to help me along the way by overcoming language and cultural barriers.

What advice would you give current students about developing their careers?

Know what makes you happy and fight for it. Things were not easy for me and I am sure they are not easy for most people. But only the ones who fight get to win.
