Coordinator for Postgraduate Fellowships and Scholarships (undergrad and recent grads) Dr. Deirdre Moloney advises promising Mason undergraduates and recent alumni regarding the application process for nationally competitive fellowships. She assists students to prepare their applications for the Truman, Marshall, Fulbright, Goldwater, Jack Kent Cooke, Udall and several other foundations that will enable them to pursue graduate studies.

Rotary Scholarships.  Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship provides funding for one academic year of study at a study institution assigned by The Rotary Foundation Trustees. Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship is for either three or six months of intensive language training and cultural immersion at a study institution assigned by The Rotary Foundation Trustees. Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship is for either two or three years of degree-oriented study at an institution assigned by The Rotary Foundation Trustees.


Mason's Financial Aid Office (undergrad) The Office of Financial Aid can provide advice about how to pay for your education. There is also a free scholarship search site.

Mason University Scholars Program (Prospective Undergrad) In this highly competitive program, University Scholars receive a four-year tuition scholarship. This scholarship is the largest merit-based award that George Mason University offers its undergraduate students.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Undergrad) This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Check website for Fall and Spring deadlines. (no funding of summer programs)

Freeman-ASIA Award Program (Undergrad)The primary goal of the Freeman-ASIA Award Program is to increase the number of American undergraduate students who study in East and Southeast Asia, by providing them with the information and financial assistance they will need.

Critical Language Scholarships.  The Department of State Critical Language Scholarships will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers. Some of the critical-need languages include Arabic, Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish and Urdu

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship. Not Western Europe, Australia. Student must be a United States citizen.

Fulbright (Undergrad and Graduate).

DAAD-German Academic Exchange Service Grants For study in Germany, here are the undergrad grants: EDU.de scholarships: to support undergraduate US and Canadian students interested in studying, doing research, or completing an internship in Germany. There are other opportunities too.

Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship (Undergrad and Graduate) The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds, who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. Deadline: Feb. 8, 2008.

Ronald H. Brown Commercial Service Fellowships: The Program is designed to afford an increasing number of promising and culturally diverse students the opportunity to prepare for professional careers in the Commercial Foreign Service.

Fellowship for Minority College Sophomores
The IIPP Fellowship Program provides students from underrepresented minority groups with education and training experiences critical to entry and advancement in international affairs careers. IIPP is a comprehensive program of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, graduate study and student services, including, mentoring and career development. Additionally, the program provides students with the education and training needed to enter successfully, advance within, and lead international affairs careers. Deadline: March 15, 2008.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Fellowships - this foundation is committed to advancing women's educational opportunities, especially in fields in which women have been historically underrepresented and in developing countries.

Jacob Javits Fellowship - this is a renewable grant administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Fellowship - this multi-year fellowship funds graduate students in a variety of physical science, social science, and enginerring fields.

Cosmos Club Foundation Program of Grants -in-Aid to Young Scholars This is a program administered by the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area that assists graduate students with costs associated with their research, especially their dissertations.

Jack Kent Cooke Fellowship - this generous fellowship funds up to $50,000 per yar for up to six years of graduate or professional school.

Social Science Research Council (SSRC) - this organization sponsors several prestigious fellowships for graduate study, many of which support research abroad.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation - the federal memorial to our thirty-third President - awards merit-based scholarships to college students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service.

Presidential Management Fellows Program (Graduate Students) The purpose of the Program is to attract outstanding graduate students to the Federal service.

Marshall Fellowships (Undergrad and Graduate) For study in the United Kingdom. Deadline: around Oct. 1 of year preceeding tenure.

Mitchell Scholarships (Graduate) For graduate study in Ireland.


Fascell Fellowship Program (Graduate Students) Imagine having the opportunity to work outside the United States in support of a diplomatic or consular mission. It's possible if you become a Fascell fellow. Fellowship opportunities are available in Eastern Europe, the Former Soviet Union and China. Participating posts include: Beijing, China; Bratislava, Slovak Republic; Kiev, Ukraine; Krakow, Poland; Minsk, Belarus; Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Russia; Tallinn, Estonia; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Vilnius, Lithuania; and Yerevan, Armenia.

Harold Rosenthal Fellowship (Graduate Students or Seniors) For students in international relations to spend a summer with a member of Congress or in the State Department. Includes stipend.

Rhodes Scholarship (Graduate Students) For 2 years of study at Oxford University, UK, at the graduate level in any field, specifically for students dedicated to a life of leadership. All expenses.
