Tanya Katyal

Tanya is a Program Support Officer in the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State. The main purpose of this office is to implement the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief in countries where HIV/AIDS is an epidemic.

Tanya received her bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Mary Washington. After graduating, she began working at USA for UNHCR, a non-profit organization with a mission to protect and raise awareness about the plight of global refugees and internally displaced persons. Tanya’s work experience at USA for UNHCR reinforced her passion to seek higher education in global affairs. Tanya graduated from the MA program in Spring 2015 and specialized in global health to learn how to implement health policies in the developing world. Along with learning about infectious and parasitic diseases in class, Tanya designed a project proposal to combat the prevalence of water-borne illness among slum children in India.

Tanya’s long-term goal is to work for an international organization that implements health policies to lower the prevalence rate of infectious diseases. She would also like to work with a non-profit organization that serves to raise awareness about mental health issues in the developing countries.
