Where are you from?
Originally from Concord, MA. I came to Mason for undergrad in 2010.
What was your undergraduate major, and from which university did you graduate?
Communication specializing in Public Relations from George Mason University.
What are some causes/ issues you care about? Why?
I’ve always tended to lean into areas of women’s rights and LGBTQ+ communities and how these groups are treated and portrayed across the globe. I feel like many times these groups are underrepresented or are not given the same opportunities or treatment as they deserve.
What work/intern/volunteer experience do you have and how has it prepared you for your studies?
I am currently working in the Office of International Enrollment Partnerships at Mason and love getting to help with the delegation visits in particular. This has definitely helped me to prepare for my studies as I learn about intercultural communication, diplomacy, and public relations.
What aspects of Mason made you choose to study here?
Mason has such a variety of courses to study, as well as a great student and faculty diversity and international opportunities. This creates a fascinating and enriching learning environment. With all the opportunities to befriend people from all over the globe, study abroad, and dip my toes in so many areas across campus, Mason quickly felt like home to me.
What do you hope to accomplish while at Mason?
I would love to further help Mason create and maintain international relationships and help it’s international students in particular to find a home at Mason, and make their process from recruitment to graduating as smooth as possible.
What are your hobbies?
I love to travel, cook, event plan, theatre, and am a movie and TV buff.
What are you most looking forward to while living in the DC area?
Not the traffic, that’s for sure! I do enjoy exploring all the different restaurants and hidden gems in the DMV area. My favorite place is called Board and Brews in Maryland.
I love that there is city life here, or you can take a day or weekend trip and go glamping in the Shenandoah Valley, visit wineries, go to the beach, or explore national parks and forests. It’s the perfect balance for me.
What is your favorite thing about being a student?
I always love getting to interact, discuss the materials, and build relationships with the professor and other students.
Which languages do you speak?
English fluently and I know some survival phrases from when I have travelled to Italy, Japan, and France. I am currently using Duo Lingo to learn German and am trying to learn some Thai for a trip I am taking this fall.
What was the last book you read? Do you recommend it? (Why/why not)
The last book I read was 12,000 Miles in the Nick of Time: A Family Tale by Mark Johnson. I definitely recommend this especially as a beach read. If you’ve ever travelled with your family you’ll be able to relate to parts of this and it made me laugh several times.
