Learning about Environmentally Sustainable Products

As a Global Affairs student, I’ve always been passionate about understanding how economic, political, and cultural forces shape our world. In particular, I am really interested in how globalization impacts environmental sustainability, which is why my internship at IMMINENT, a production design company that specializes in producing environmentally sustainable products, was extremely eye opening for me.

In my Global Affairs coursework, I've delved into topics like international relations, sustainable development, and global trade. I've learned how policy decisions in one part of the world can ripple across continents, affecting economies, ecosystems, and communities. The Paris Agreement, for example, showcased how nations could come together to combat climate change, emphasizing the importance of collective action and sustainable practices. At the eco-friendly product design company where I intern, the mission is to create products that not only serve consumers but also minimize environmental impact. This involves using sustainable materials, reducing waste, and ensuring that the entire lifecycle of a product, from conception to disposal, adheres to eco-friendly principles. Here, I've seen firsthand how the principles I've studied in the Global Affairs program are applied in a business setting. This internship has not only given me practical experience but also a deeper understanding of how businesses can drive global change. It's one thing to learn about sustainability in the classroom, but it's another to see it implemented in the real world. I've witnessed how companies can be at the forefront of innovation, creating products that meet consumer needs while also addressing global challenges.

As I continue my journey in global affairs, this internship has equipped me with a unique perspective on the intersection of sustainability, business, and global dynamics. It's clear to me now that to tackle the complex issues our world faces, we need multifaceted solutions that blend policy, innovation, and cultural understanding. My goal is to pursue a career in corporate sustainability. I have seen firsthand how businesses can be powerful agents of change, and I am eager to be part of this movement. By working in corporate sustainability, I hope to help companies develop and implement strategies that promote environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and long-term economic viability. This role will allow me to leverage my global affairs background to drive impactful, sustainable practices within the corporate sector, contributing to a healthier planet and more equitable global community.
