The Duke-UNC Chapel Hill China Leadership Summit was an incredible opportunity for me, as a Global Affairs major specializing in culture and society, to deepen my knowledge of U.S.-China relations and engage in meaningful discussion with peers on this years topic of “Bridging the Pacific”. Given China’s significant role in global politics, economics, and culture—and its personal importance to me—I knew I wanted to apply as soon as I saw the application in an email. The summit provided an ideal platform to explore key issues shaping China’s interactions with the world while fostering dialogue with other passionate students who share similar interests.
Over the weekend, we had the privilege of hearing from distinguished speakers, including professors from a range of disciplines, current and former diplomats, and leading industry experts. Each session provided valuable insights into different aspects of China’s evolving role in the international arena. We explored a diverse array of topics, from the impact of digital platforms and trade policies to the influence of Chinese film and literature on global narratives. The summit’s structure also encouraged interactive learning beyond formal presentations. We engaged in discussions, participated in a short research fair showcasing student projects, and exchanged perspectives with fellow attendees outside of speaker sessions.
I am grateful for this opportunity to represent GMU’s Global Affairs program at the summit this year. The experience broadened my knowledge, exposed me to new perspectives, and strengthened both my academic and professional networks. This summit has undoubtedly contributed to my growth as a scholar and aspiring professional in the field, and I look forward to applying what I have learned in future academic and career endeavors
