Dr. Johanna Bockman, Associate Professor of Global Affairs, presented her ongoing research project titled "Beyond Debtors as Undisciplined, Ignorant Others: Socialist Yugoslavia as Creditor and Debtor" on March 19 to other residential program fellows, faculty, and staff. Her talk was part of her fellowship with the Center for Humanities Research, which supported her aforementioned research and writing project throughout the spring semester.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bockman will travel to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in June for a research trip funded by the U.S. State Department’s Title VIII Program for Research Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union. There, she will participate in the Summer Research Laboratory program, consult with specialist librarians in the Slavic Reference Service, and explore the university’s extensive Yugoslav and broader Slavic, East European, and Eurasian collections. This trip will also support her efforts to turn her recent talk into an article and act as a resource for her teaching and ongoing research. And of course, with the Midwest’s rich Eastern European communities, Dr. Bockman is also looking forward to enjoying some delicious regional cuisine!
