Global Affairs Students Win Scholarships

Mirella Saldana-Morena and Nicole Grim, global affairs students, are among several other students across the university who were awarded scholarships from the Alumni Association.

Mirella, a sophomore majoring in global affairs and Spanish, expects to graduate in May 2013. She first came to Mason as an EIP student in high school and is still active with EIP, working on an alumni outreach project for the program.  In addition to her duties as a Mason Ambassador and her EIP project, Mirella is also involved in mentoring other first-generation Latina college students. She dreams of becoming an educator and continuing to mentor others. She was awarded the The Peter C. Forame Student Leader Scholarship.

Nicole, a sophomore majoring in global affairs and conflict analysis and resolution anticipates graduating in May 2013. In addition to serving as the vice president of events for the Mason Ambassadors, Nicole chaired the advertising committee for GBAY during the auction's inaugural year in 2010, raising over $10,000 for student scholarships. She was named Best New Member of a Greek Organization for her work as the Director of Alumni Affairs with the Alpha Phi Sorority. Nicole was awarded the George Mason University Alumni Association Service Scholarship.
