In reaction to the slave trade, generations of black intellectuals have tried to invent and foster forms of solidarity between Africa and its diaspora. What has become of the Pan-African imagination today? We will explore several possible answers to this question that have emerged on the African continent. Our journey will take us through an overview of historical Pan-African movements to contemporary concerns such as international terrorism and mass migration. Our objects of study may include texts, films, and pop culture from Senegal, Mali, Djibouti, and/or South Africa, via the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther.
