Please join us the week of March 21 for an exhibit of arpilleras on display in the Department of Modern & Classical Languages. The exhibition can be viewed between 9am and 5pm March 21st - March 28th. Arpilleras are small hand-sewn and appliquéd tapestries created by women to commemorate relatives who “disappeared” during the Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990).
Additionally, a documentary about the Arpillera movement will be shown on Thursday, March 24th, in Research I Room 163. Following this activity there will be a guided tour of the exhibition in both English and Spanish.
Lastly, there will be a Symposium on Gender, Arts, and Human Rights in Latin America with Marjorie Agosín on Monday, March 28th at 1:30pm in the JC Cinema. Professor Agosin along with Mason faculty will discuss the relationship between human rights discourse and literary/artistic creation.
