Zein earned an MFA at Maryland in 2010. He has taught creative writing courses in Maryland's Young Scholars Program as well as comparative literature courses in the English department, and for three years he also served as the assistant director of the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House on campus.
Prior to his creative writing work, Zein earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia in 1987 and worked as a civil engineer for over ten years, including managing several major construction projects at Dulles and Reagan National airports. Zein first came to Maryland via his engineering background, working for three years (2004-2007) as a project manager for the university's Residential Facilities Department.
Last year, Zein lead a 4-part series on the representation of Arabs & Muslims in film and media at George Mason Univeristy, which was both insightful and well-received by the Mason community. MEtc and MESP are happy to welcome him back for this new lecture.
