The Global Affairs Program invites you to come listen to Sociology Professor Tony Roshan Samara illustrate his experiences and new book Cape Town After Apartheid: Crime and Governance in the Divided City. Cape Town After Apartheid has been described as being a "critical case for understanding a transnational view of urban governance, especially in highly unequal, majority-poor cities".
Tony Roshan Samara received his master's degree and doctorate in sociology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a master's degree in American Studies from the City University of New York. His research and teaching interests include race, ethnicity and nationalism, globalization, urban studies and international development and security. In particular, Samara's work focuses on governance, mechanisms of social control, and the struggle over political power in global and local contexts.
