The Fighting Season: The Documentary Work of Louie Palu

Louie Palu’s documentary photography examines the social and political landscape of our time.  Over a twenty-year career Palu has created a compelling body of work covering subject matter ranging from the acclaimed Cage Call, which examines the working conditions in underground mines, to the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, to the focus of this event:  the conflict in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Palu’s work has been featured internationally including on the BBC, CBC, NPR, VOA and published in The Sunday Times, TIME, The New Yorker, The New York Times and Paris Match. His work has been exhibited worldwide including at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Southeast Museum of Photography and Fotofest in Houston. His work is in the collections of George Eastman House, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Portland Art Museum, National Gallery of Canada and the Library and Archives of Canada—to name only a few.

He is the recipient of numerous awards including a National Magazine Award, Photojournalist of the Year, Alexia Foundation Documentary Photography Grant, Aftermath Foundation Grant and is a 2011 Bernard L. Schwartz Fellow.
